Affiliated Hospital

The Affiliated Hospital of North China Coal Medical College, established in 1965, has become a general hospital of Grade 3 and Level I which integrates medical care, teaching, scientific research and prevention, not only offering the good healthcare service for the Tangshan local residents but also providing a great number of advanced medical workers for Hebei Province and for the national coal industry. During the past 40 years, it has adhered to the socialism direction of managing hospitals, surviving during competition, developing during reforming, innovating during exploiting, and winning good reputation during dedication.

With a floor space of around 50,000 m2, the building space 38,OOOm2, it, located in Tangshan, the open city in the belt of "Surrounding the Bohai Sea, Surrounding Beijing and Tianjin", is a large hospital, the only province-level hospital in the city. It is furnished with 613 beds, staffed with 883 workers, of whom 721 are medical professionals, 51 being master's mentors and 7 awarded with state-endowed allowance.

The hospital has an all-inclusive setup, composed of 4 clinical laboratories and 54 clinical and medical technical departments, of which 16 are primary, including the internal departments, the surgery departments, the pediatric department, the departments of gynecology and obstetrics, the TCM department, the department of integrated traditional and western medicine, the department of infection, the department of ophthalmology, the ENT department, the department of stomatology, the department of dermatology, the rehabilitation department, the radiology department, the emergency department, the department of anesthesiology, the community medical center, and 27 are secondary. It is furnished with modern central ICU, CCU and central operating rooms. The advanced and complete medical equipments have ensured reliable clinical diagnosis and treatment, including MRI, the 16-s1ice helical CT, 3-D intellectual color ultrasonograph, ECT, the full automatic clinical biomedical analyzer, digital subtraction angiograph, endoscopic microinvasive operating system, medical linear accelerator, high-speed electromyogram/evoked potential system, stomach intestine movement detecting system, double functional X-ray digital bone-density meter, multifunction X-ray digital imaging system, etc. Wards an out-patients in different classes, and are furnished with talk-back system, center aspiration system, and oxygen supply system.

During the past several years, the hospital has established relatively consummate medical care service system including mainly the Respiratory Department (the emphasis subject at the level of the Health Department of the Hebei Province), the Bone Surgery Department (the emphasis subject at the level of the Education Department of the Hebei Province), the Neurosurgery Department, the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, and the Neurological Department (the emphasis subject at the level of North China Coal Medical College), by adhering to the developmental strategy of prospering hospital by science and technologies and attaching importance to application of new medical technologies in clinical practice.

The medical care service has covered the Tangshan District and peripheral areas. Scientific and normalized management has been conducted carefully and medical quality has been regarded as the root of development and survival of the hospital. Many new techniques of domestic or provincial levels have been developed during the past several years by many departments such as Percutaneous Cardiac Intervention, Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation, heart-lung transplantation, intracardiac operation under direct vision, CABG, Intervention of all systems, kidney transplantation, before and after laminoplasty of cervical spinal canal, endoscopic micro invasive operations, tumorectomy of brain stem tumors and the tumor of base of skull, common temperature liver incision by total occlusion of liver blood flow, diagnosis and treatment of difficult diseases, the combined therapy of tumors, scientifically assisted human reproduction techniques.

Recently, more techniques have been developed such as per-cutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD), 3-D sterotaxis conformal radiotherapy, immunity therapy of malignant pleural fluids, local immunic therapy of tumors by bronchofibroscope immunic therapy of oval cancers, treatment of skin diseases by narrow light spectrum etc.

In recent years it has undertaken 36 states and provincial research projects, among which 36 has won awards by the provincial authorities concerned. In addition it has acquired 18 patents. Its staff members has brought out 30 medical state-wide distributed periodicals, and published nearly 1000 papers in province-wide o state-wide distributed pedicels, It offers the master degree in 7 programs.

Since 1990 it has been receiving German students for practice and study. and has established friendly relationships with medical school Yamagata University, Japan and the west Kentucky University, the USA. Around 40 medical doctors have been sent to the USA, Japan, the former Soviet Union, German, Sweden, France and Austria to learn the advanced medical know-how, and atter back home, they have made great contribution to the development of the hospital and the improvement of treatment.
